| | Date: | 8/15/2010 1:27:44 PM | | Subject: | POW/MIA bracelet | | | Dear Cordine McMurray You don’t know me but since the late 1960s I’ve known about you. I purchased a POW/MIA bracelet at that time and for many, many years I wore that silver bracelet and thought about you. I wondered how you were doing; what had happened to you; if you were married or had children etc. My questions were endless. I wore your bracelet for years although I’m not sure when I removed it and placed it carefully in my jewelry box. Although it obviously was not expensive, to me it was priceless. For a while my college age daughter wore the bracelet as well. I am amazed at the world of technology today. Recently, while talking with a dear friend and reminiscing about the Vietnam War we talked about the bracelet. My friend told me I could probably find out some information about you from the internet. Boy was he right. Within a few minutes I found the bracelet site and from there was able to find you and your story. What can I possibly say that you probably haven’t heard before? Please know that I’m glad my prayers were answered and that you are home. I am sorry for all you have endured and hope that the recent years have brought a sense of peace and good health to you and your family. I would love to hear from you but if not that it okay too. If you would like to have the bracelet please let me know where I can mail it.
With all my best wishes

We had some 72 attendees with five(5) attending from the 1-12th--1Lt. Glen "Rusty" Armstrong, D Co. Cmdr. and wife Ann, Benjamin Hauck (RTO/1/A Co.), Gerald Pearson (3/3/A Co.)and wife Linda, Londell "Duke" Thompson (2/A Co.) and wife Jean, James Tobise (1/A Co.) and wife. Several other Red Warriors had to cancel at the last moment. Lt. Armstrong, one of our guest speakers at Banquet Night progam gave an excellent talk. He was presented with a 101st Airborne traditional screaming eagle on an oak base with engraved plate. Eagles were presented to officers, platoon sergeants and medics attending. All attendees who attended and participated in the Cambodia Operation--Binh Tay I--received a special "Cambodian Incursion" Certificate of Recognition with their unit crest, rank and name, unit. The certificate, as well as photos and an AAR (After Action Report) of the reunion can be viewed at: www.currahee.org. The AAR will be posted shortly. Attendees from each of the units attending have expressed the desire to come together again in a year or so to renew the friendship and sharing that took place this reunion. The book--Twelve Days In May--is a huge success per attendees and others who have purchased their copy. If you want a copy, go to: www.cambodiaincursion.com. If there is anyone out there who recalls "Top" Perry, please write back. I have met those he served with in the 1st ID (B-2/18th INF) in 66/67, they all called him "Top"; unfortunately I met them after dad passed. I've seen their emails pay tribute and even read a chapter in the book "Laughs from Nam" written by LTC (Ret) Bob Leary (had a platoon was an XO in B-2/18th) about dad during Operation Junction City.
I set up a college ROTC memorial scholarship in his dad's name just after he passed. It would be a nice tribute to pass along any insights to these future soldiers and leaders about dad from those who knew him in Vietnam. Might not be surprising to any of you, but dad never spoke about Vietnam, not at any length. I did know he eventually was the Post SGM at An Khe from Mar 70 to Jun 70 working under Brigadier General Jack McFarlane (4th ID Asst Div Cdr). Thank you!

| | Date: | 5/13/2010 12:01:35 PM | | Subject: | Book - Twelve Days In May 1970 featuring the 1-12th Infantry in Cambodia | | | Troopers, I have asked Roger Hill to post a message that my latest book--Twelve Days In May--is now available. The pages of this book present the factual story of the 4th Infantry Division Cambodian Incursion in May 1970—not only the role of my battalion, the 3-506th, but the story behind each of the five other 4th Infantry battalions and their support units--aviation, artillery, medical, engineers, and logistics--who participated in the campaign. The men who fought the battles and faced the enemy gallantly deserve more than being recorded as only numbers and statistics on faded archives pages, or having their names etched for eternity on the Vietnam Wall. Behind these statistics are countless untold stories that bring out the devastation of war in vivid detail and told by those who were there, including the "Red Warriors". Unlike other books written about the 4th ID's involvement, read what really happened in Binh Tay I. I plan to share my 3-years of research for this book that involves the 1-12th Inf. with Roger Hill and your association. You can order the book on the internet or directly from me at: www.currahee.org. I think you will like the book. I will be honored to autograph a copy for you, if ordered from www.currahee.org. BTW, we have organized a special reunion in Reno, NV, June 15-19 at the Circus Circus Hotel %26 Casino to honor all of you who participated in that northern thrust into Cambodia. Come join us and be honored. Check out the details on www.currahee.org to see who all have already signed up. Contact me if you have questions.
