Subject:VN-Related TV documentaries on the Military cable channel

There seem to be several documentaries on the Military channel. One deals with the establishment of Camp Enari. Another, part of the series "Warrior POV" deals with the Five Days in May in which the 1/8 was involved. The 1/8 was part of the 4ID operating in Kontum in May '67. Another deals with the Tet Offensive. They interview men who took part and have re-enactors.

Good evening, my name is SFC Neal and I am currently serving with 2-12 located in Ft Carson. 2-12 is trying to put together a memorial peice for all of the war dead for the 12th dating back to the civil war. A fellow PSG And I are currently trying to compile a list of all the dead from the civil war. I know this is the Vietnam war page, but I'm not having any luck with some of the other sites. If I could get someone to send me a jumping off point, I could go with that. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Subject:Special 2014 Cambodia 1970 Veterans Reunion

Troopers, I wanted to send out a notice to our 4th ID Cambodia 1970 veterans (1-12th, 1-14th, 3-8th, 1-22nd, 2-35th, 92nd AHC, 4-42th FA, 6-29th FA, and Dust-off 498th Med.) of the 2014 Rendezvous I am working to organize. I am asking you to forward this message to everyone on your mailing list, who participated in that operation to join us, because I won't have a good many addresses that you might have. Let them know too that they (you) can find the After Action Report for the Cambodia Vets Reunion I put together back in 2010 in Reno on our homepage (www.currahee.org), in case they want to learn more about us and what this upcoming rendezvous in 2014 would be like. If you haven't seen it, check it out (lots of pictures and details). We hope this next one will be much larger and regrettably, it will be my last attempt to bring as many of us back together one last time. It was such an honor for me to make contact with all of you and getting to know so many of you, during those several years researching and writing "Twelve Days In May".

I have created a poll on my unit website (www.currahee.org) to help find out how many of you will attend. Check it out, there are already some 4th ID members signed on the "Attendees List". It is time for me to start contacting the various facilities in the three locations--Reno, Las Vegas and Tunica, MS--for the best deal we can get to accommodate our group, I.e. room rates, eating facilities (banquet nights), etc. If you don't get your group's request in at least a year in advance, you miss out with other units contracting with those facilities and getting the best deals. I need must higher numbers by mid-summer than what the poll is showing now to make this special rendezvous happen. The poll is now showing Tunica, Mississippi is the preferred location for the event. If you plan to attend, go and vote for your choice. I have uploaded some additional information (agendas) about the reunion. I will continue to add more information in coming weeks and months, now that I have finished the latest book manuscript, which will head to the publisher in another week, I can concentrate more on the event. The past year has been totally devoted to that puppy!

I look forward to making the 2014 Rendezvous happen, but can only do it if you help make it happen. What say you? Get your name on the "Attendees List", if it isn't there already, so your buddies can see that some of their unit members will be there. It is a scary move for first timers to walk among strangers....but bottom line is that we aren't strangers, but veterans with much in common and who many of us walked the same ground for the same purpose.

Does anyone know anything about what the late major Owen did after his tour of duty-1968-1969 until his passing? During one battle in 1969 some of us heard that he had died but got up and continued to fight.

Thanks.

I was in Commo. Arrived in the Nam 14 February 1969 and left Mar 31st 1970. I spent my tour on the several FSB's we occupied. (LZ Mile High, Nicole, Penny, and one more I can't remember. I often think about the guys I served with. The problem is I don't have Names, only code names we gave each other. There was Flash, our CEOI Courrier; Hillbilly, our wireman; Osumi, (who had a very nice looking sister)our generator repair. I do remember CPT Culp.
They gave me the code name of Cuddles bcause I was so young and looked like a little kid.
I ETS'd in 1970 and joined the reserve in 1981. Moved to Georgia in 1989 and left the Reserve. Joined the Georgia National Guard in 1990. Got a fulltime (AGR) position in 1991 and retired in 2010 with 23 years of Active duty.
I just want to say to all the guys, welcome home.

Today is the 45th anivesary of LZ501N. A day of emotion and memories of all the guys killed around that LZ. It is now the same time of day that we loaded up and flew out of 3 Tango to try and bring Bravo into the LZ to assist Charlie who was completely surrounded and had heavy casualties. My memory of the approach to the LZ is as vivid today as it was on 2/15/67. The first thing I noticed was the treeline on th right was on fire,at the same time the entire jungle opened up on us. I remember the helicopter bucking and shaking and then crashing into the ground. The pilot was badly wounded and the door gunner was KIA. I had talked to the gunner right before we left 3 Tango. He was new in country and it was his first Combat Assault. I found out about a yeaar ago his name was Chamberlain, from Palm Beach,Florida. By days end, thanks to information from a Spec/4 from the weapons platoon, we were able to land 1 chopper at a time in the valley and turn them around and send them out the way they came in. By night fall we had all of Bravo and Alpha and some of Hdq and Hdq on the ground, and all of those units sustained heavy casualties. Today is an emotional day of rememberance for me and i'm sure for all the other survivors of 501 N. I never got to know any of you guys but I was linked with you forever and consider all of you true brothers. God Bless to all and a special prayer for all of the guys in 1/12 who lost their lives at LZ 501 North. Cpl. Sam Gribben, 4th Pathfinder Det. 4th Avaition Bn.

For too many decades I lived my memories alone believing my walks through hell would be easier done by myself. In my dreams I often gave burials to the dead who were never given time for a hero's departure. I no longer wish to kill everything over and over again for all my dead friends. Most of them died violently in combat and then another young man would take their place and many would not know his name either. For all my Red Warrior brothers in arms and their families who have survived another year of life I wish you a wonderous New Year which you all so rightfully deserve. May you all find that precious but very fragile value of peace in your life. Most of all be gentle with yourself and all your loved ones who surround and support you in your never ending struggles with the Vietnam war.

Greetings to all from Afghanistan. Served as the 3rd platoon leader with B Co, in the Spring of 1969. Later went to 2 BDE HQ at LZ Mary Lou. Arrived at FB X-Ray the day that B Co walked into the huge ambush some distance from X-Ray. It was the ambush in which the 1st platoon leader was KIA. I flew out next morning with the BN Commander.
I hope that each of you are well. I will forever remember my time with the battalion.
All the best, Mike

As a Marine, I was stationed up North. My brother, Rick, died in November, 1967 in Darlac province, Daq To(sp?). He was in B Company. I believe he is pictured in the third photo from the bottom on this page - http://www.vietthuc.org/2012/10/30/a-picture-says-a-thousand-words-hinh-xua-ve-toi-ac-cua-linh-my-tai-mien-nam-vnch/ , carrying the elderly Vietnamese woman. . Is there any way to find information on the location, date, or any other info about that photo? My family has been searching for years. If anyone knew my brother, we would especially like to hear from you.

I'm in my 50's now but when I was in Jr. High I wore the POW bracelet of S/SGT Richard Perricone day and night for a long long time. It reminded me to pray for his protection. I just today looked him up and read his amazing story of survival. I would like to return the bracelet to him or his family if it means something to them.

I would encourage all Red Warriors to continue to recruit and find more of our comrades to attend in the future. Ann and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
Well done!

The past three days my wife and I attended our first Red Warriors reunion. I arrived in San Antonio with 43 years of memories, alot of unanswered questions, anxious feelings and a tremendous amount of anger. During this short period of time most questions were answered, old friendships were rekindled, new friendships were formed and we met some of the strongest most supportive women on earth. I have never claimed to be a hero but I served with many men who would and a number who did sacrifice their lives so that I could attend that reunion. TO Gene Murphy, Lyle Bowes, Warren Nikkola,Paul Ogren,Ron Reddy, Bobby Vallderama,Phil Seals and all others in attendance I was truly honored to have served with you and humbled to stand beside you at this event. To my wife Pam and all the other women who were able to make our reunion so memorable trust me when I say as soldiers we love each other but as veterans we love and cherish you from the heart more than you may ever know or realize. Thank you again for allowing Pam and I into your lives for this brief period of time and may peace finally be a part of your lives forever.

I served in HHC 1/12th INF 4 DIV Ft Carson CO in 1971 shortly after the unit returned from Vietnam. Out of the 6 years that I served with no combat experience myself I learned most from these few years in this unit. Like your home town is always the same your unit stays the same. I was trained by those returning from war, trained with many that were next to go to Vietnam, and help train many more yet to go to the Vietnam War. The 1/12th is recognized for all of its first achievements, it should not be forgotten that it was also the last. It was the last leg Infantry unit in the US Army. The unit of the last military donkey/burro (Comanche) to service in the US Army. We were used to help train the last to go to Vietnam. We trained the Air Force Cadets on our weapons and used field training to train many units on tactics. Tucked back in the mule barn area of Ft Carson in the 1935 temporary barracks that you could strike a match in the middle of the building with all doors and windows closed and the wind would blow thru the walls to put the match out. I may have been one of the last soldiers to share a beer with Comanche. We were the last to serve in this last leg Infantry unit of the US Army.
